The Braven BRV-1 HD is made for the adventurer who wants wireless sound while out in the wet and wild. The speaker can survive rain and splashes, wireless playback control and a battery that lasts up to 12 hours and even charges your mobile phone but occasionally runs into trouble at top volumes. So before buying the water-proof speaker from BRV-1 HD, you need to read our review as you need to know the plus and minus from this binocular design speaker. Let’s have a look below!
Design & Features
It looks like the BRV-1 was designed by the military as it’s ultra-rugged design is both functional and solid. The top features are the high strength aluminum front grill design, fully integrated, easy to use topside controls and the grippy rubber base-pads at the bottom that keeps the speaker from slipping around and even in rough or slippery conditions. It’s nice to know that if the speaker needs a charge, there will be five lights in-total signaling 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100% battery life it’s easy to know when you’re in need of a charge. Charging from 0% to 100% takes approximately 2.5hrs, and will play at medium volume for approx 10 – 11hrs on average. The battery might drain faster if you play the system higher than 60% of volume. There's no wall plug since the speaker is designed to be charged using a computer's USB port and phone charger. Braven estimates that the BRV-1's 1400 mAh battery will last up to 12 hours playing music.
For a small speaker size, the vocals sound loud and clear although the deep bass gets lost simply due to the speaker's size. When pushed to the maximum volume, we experienced radiator vibration heavily at top volumes on deep bass tracks and sounded like a blown-out woofer distorting mightily. So to avoid distortion all together, simply keep the BRV-1’s volume at 80% and lower. Overall, the volume speaker (wired or via Bluetooth) isn’t loud enough to fill a room, and we think that the BRV-1 is best at providing a great listening experience by turning it on just a few feet away. The BRV-1 also works as a Bluetooth speakerphone, but the audio isn't really clear.

How to start the music
Pairing the BRV-1 with your smartphone is easy. First of all, just press the power button until you hear a sound similar to the Android startup sound then press the Play button until you hear a soft beep to enter pairing mode. Our iPhone 8 picked up the device straight away and had no problems pairing it quickly.

It’s a great speaker for listening in close quarters in a potentially wet environment, the BRV-1 is a good choice, but if you're expecting to host a party, you will want to spend extra money on larger speaker and with more power. However, if you're hanging out by the pool or going down the shore, the BRV-1 will keep playing even if it gets hit by a wave. In conclusion, the BRV-1 is a waterproof mini Bluetooth speaker that sounds decent, but I think it's better for personal listening than entertaining. It’s a rugged, waterproof, Bluetooth-equipped that delivers quality audio, but occasionally runs into trouble at top volumes.
