Smartphones have become quite an essential part of our lives. Almost everyone has one, and since it offers so many helpful tools, we take it everywhere. We touch our phones nearly 100 times a day, and the case that protects it handles all types of surfaces from office desks, dining tables, and bathroom counters to the floor. Unsurprisingly, our phone and its case can quickly get dirty. So, to avoid the transfer of germs and bacteria, it’s essential to clean your phone case regularly and to know how to do it properly. Here are some easy steps that you can follow to clean your phone case properly.

Step 1: Remove your phone from the case

The first step is to remove your phone from the case and set it aside. This step will allow you to clean your case, including all the corners thoroughly.

Step 2: Mix the cleaning solution

It is crucial to choose the right cleaning solution for your phone case. According to the materials, you may need to use different mixture types for other subjects. Don’t use harsh cleaning solutions and avoid using bleach, ammonia, and glass cleaners, as they can be abrasive and corrosive on all case materials.
Plastic, Silicone, and Rubber Phone Cases
Using plastic, silicone, or rubber phone cases, a simple cleaning solution from dish soap is your best option. Mix 1 cup (240ml) of warm water and a drop of dish soap in a bowl, stirring with a spoon, until thoroughly mixed. If you don’t have dish soap, you can replace it with hand soap, liquid castile soap, or laundry detergent.
Leather Phone Cases
As for leather cases, you can make a cleaning solution using baby soap or a gentle hand soap instead. Mix 1 cup (240 ml) of warm water and a drop of the baby soap or mild hand soap in a bowl, and stir the mixture with a spoon. You can mix water and vinegar if you don’t have a gentle soap. Mix two parts of warm water and one part of vinegar in a bowl, and stir until thoroughly mixed.
Wood Phone Cases
For phone cases made from natural wood, it is better to avoid using soap and use warm water or wood cleaner to clean them. However, if you’re looking for a complete homemade solution that can remove dirt and act as a disinfectant that kills bacteria, white vinegar is a safe option. Fill in a bottle sprayer with warm water and one part of white vinegar, and shake until thoroughly mixed.

Step 3: Clean the case

You can use a soft-bristled toothbrush to help clean plastic, silicone, and rubber phone cases, but avoid using it for leather or wood cases. You can use a cloth or sponge when cleaning leather or wood cases.

Rub and scrub the surface of the phone case with the material, sponge, or toothbrush in a gentle back and forth or circular motion. Dip the cloth, sponge, or toothbrush into the cleaning solution, ensuring it gets sufficiently wet. Ensure clean both the outside and the inside of the case. Don’t forget to clean all parts of the case, including the corners and hard-to-reach spaces. Scrub gently, especially on leather cases, to not remove its colour and damage the case.

If you’re using wood cleaner or water and white vinegar mixture for your wood phone case, dab or spray the cleaning solution onto a cloth (preferably a microfiber cloth) and gently rub the matter with it using a circular motion.

Step 4: Dry the case

After cleaning all the surfaces on the phone case, rinse it under cool water to wash away all the residue. Ensure all the cleaning solution and residue are rinsed off, then dry your case with a new dry cloth or soft towel. Let your case air dry thoroughly for about an hour before placing it back on your phone. It is crucial to make sure your case is completely dry before putting it back into your phone so as not to transfer extra droplets to your phone and its ports.

A routine of regularly cleaning your phone case can help keep your suit looking good while keeping it clean from germs and bacteria. You can use a mild disinfectant to clean your phone case daily and do a deeper cleaning once weekly. However, if you’re using a leather case, it is better to do a monthly cleaning instead of weekly to prevent discolouration of the case.

Another way to keep your case clean is to invest in the right one. With the advancement of technology, some patients now have built-in MicroPel® Antimicrobial Protection to repel bacteria and help keep your phone and case extra clean.
