Speck Presidio Sport & Speck Presidio Grip Comparison: Both Have Impactium Shock Barrier, What’s The Difference?

Speck Presidio Sport and Speck Presidio Grip Review Australia

Speck has always impressed me with their smartphone cases because the models are thin, easy to handle and have military-grade protection. The Speck Presidio Sport and Speck Presidio Grip cases are specifically designed for impactium shock barrier, have a 10 feet drop-tested and came from the same brand, but what’s the difference? So, now let’s see the difference between these two cases from Speck.

Speck Presidio Sport

How frequently do you hand your phone to someone else to share a photo or a website? Set it down in a taxi, or on a cafe counter? The germs obviously are all over the case. The Speck Presidio Sport case is made with a Microban Antimicrobial Technology which protects your case against the growth of bacteria. Moreover, this sport case have impactium shock barrier, and have been tested for 10 feet drop.

What’s great

  • Impactium shock barrier- This extra padding provides shock dispersion that can save a screen because the corners are a screens weak spot when dropped.
  • Button feel – The tactility is perfect but a bit hardRotary switch – Great solution for a case that would otherwise have a deep finger hole recess for accessing the switch.
  • Flat back – the back of the case is perfectly flat counteracting the normally protruding camera lens.
  • Hand feels – the case has a silky touch without being too slippery.
  • Button feel – The tactility is perfect but a bit hardRotary switch – Great solution for a case that would otherwise have a deep finger hole recess for accessing the switch.
  • Screen protection – the screen fits into the case even when using an additional glass screen protector.
  • Wireless charger- Works fine with the wireless charger.
  • Cut-outs for camera and ports: neat cut-outs for camera and ports.
  • Installation: : Installing and uninstalling is easy and straight forward.

What needs to be improved

  • The cover for the ports is a bit annoying when open with a connected cable because the case doesn’t lay flat.
  • A mention of Qi compatibility on the packaging.

Speck Presidio Grip

The Presidio Grip case feels so grippy and easily slips in and out of your pocket. The case holds tightly to the phone and is easy to remove. I highly recommend removing the case once in a while to clean out the inside case because the dust and dirt can work its way into the case as it has no port covers.

What’s great

  • Responsive buttons: The on/off and volume buttons are completely covered, but still easy to press.
  • No-slip grip: The slightly raised ribbed pattern makes it difficult for the case to slip out of your hands.
  • Cut-outs for camera and ports: neat cut-outs for camera and ports.
  • Bezel screen protection: This feature can save the screen from cracks or scratches if dropped face down, and this is why I don’t use screen protectors for this case.
  • Port protection: The thickness of the case protects buttons, ports and the camera lens by making them recessed instead of being exposed to bumping or scratching.
  • Bezel screen protection: This feature can save the screen from cracks or scratches if dropped face down.
  • Impactium shock barrier: extra padding provides shock dispersion that can save a screen because the corners are a screens weak spot when dropped.

What needs to be improved

  • Lab-tested durability: I assume this means that Speck cases are tested in their lab other than the advertised 10 ft drop test.
  • Installation: Installing and uninstalling can be a bit sturdy.

Conclusions

Both are designed for impact shock with 10 feet drop-tested, but the grippiest case goes to the Presidio Grip. The Presidio Sport does an excellent job at keeping dust away because of its closed charging and headset ports.

If you like your ports covered and you’re worried about germs then definitely get Speck Presidio Sport, and if you want something that’s thin and griipy to hold, and a higher raised bezel to protect your screen then get the Presidio Grip.

However, Most Presidio cases are not slippery. If you’re looking for a light, easy to use case that also lets you still touch your smartphone, both cases can be a good investment.
